Postpartum Doula
Madison, WI
Part Time

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our postpartum care team. The ideal candidate will have a certification or degree from a recognized Doula training program such as DONA International, coupled with previous experience in early childhood education, medicine, or a related field. This role requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to provide emotional support to new parents during the postpartum period. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to promoting the well-being of both newborns and their families. 

Requirements: 

  • Certification/degree from recognized Doula training program (DONA International, etc.) 

  • Previous experience in early childhood education and/or health care 

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification 

  • CLC/IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant) trained 

  • Knowledge of newborn care practices, infant feeding (breastfeeding and/or formula feeding), and postpartum recovery. 

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and nonverbal, to effectively interact with diverse families. A high level of professionalism is a must.

  • Empathy, patience, and a nonjudgmental approach to supporting families during the postpartum period. 

Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Monitoring and care of newborns in client’s homes 

  • Providing one-on-one lactation support. 

  • Assisting with maternal transfers to shower/toilet/chair/etc. 

  • Assist with minimal medical monitoring such as blood pressure checks and temperature checks.  

  • Assist with newborn care, including feeding (breastfeeding or bottle-feeding), diapering, bathing, and soothing techniques. 

  • Offer guidance on postpartum recovery for the birthing parent, including rest, nutrition, and self-care practices. 

  • Aid in household tasks such as light housekeeping, meal preparation, and running errands to alleviate the workload for the family. 

  • Provide evidence-based information on newborn care, infant feeding, and postpartum recovery. 

  • Offer guidance on newborn sleep patterns, soothing techniques, and developmental milestones. 

  • Educate parents on self-care practices and coping strategies for managing the challenges of early parenthood.
